Dreams and Future

In 2017 several young people in the community of Pacoche, Ecuador were asked what they wanted to be after high school. Their responses were, Phycologist, Auto Mechanic, Song Writer, Business owner, System Engineer, Elementary School Teacher, Professional Soccer Player, and Lawyer. All of these goals seem like dreams, why, Pacoche is a tiny fishing village and family incomes can be less than $300 a month. So, sending their children to University is a challenge.

However, Pastor Fabian and Graciela with Iglesia Casa de Dios in Pacoche have dreams too. They have been encouraging kids and providing scholarships for several years. Graciela’s sister Nidia has been tutoring the children. The tutoring and scholarships have kept children in school. This is breaking the cycle of kids dropping out of school. Many of the parents in Pacoche cannot read or write.

Currently, we are celebrating with some of these young people. In May two of them had their graduation ceremonies. Pascual has received his degree in System Engineering, and Angie has received her degree in Elementary Education. Jose Luis and Erwin are working together in construction and woodworking. They both attended some technical training and learned a lot when they volunteered with Iglesia Casa de Dios. Elias will be graduating early next year with his business degree. Benjamin is practicing with a professional Soccer team with the hopes of getting picked up. Ruben, the one who said he wanted to be a Lawyer is a special needs young man. He is known in the community as a hard worker with a great sense of humor. Some of the local maestros are giving him opportunities.

Pastor Fabian, Graciela, and the Cambiarte team want to thank all of you who have helped make these dreams come true. We look forward to seeing more children follow in their footsteps and how communities are impacted.
